Baby Steps, Part 4: Transparency

Today I return to my ongoing series about the next steps in moving our government in the right direction. As I have stated, sudden change, even for the better, can be disastrous, and would require weilding more power than any self-respecting libertarian would be willing to weild. This particular step I am proposing would be a less gradual progression, since I believe that very little ill effect would come from its implementation. The only need for baby steps with transparency would be the difficulty of passing such legislation, since Congress is unlikely to vote a rod against itself. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Rush is Wrong

Perhaps not entirely inaccurate, but philosophically wrong. I may not be threatening his “percentage of being right” as it relates to the accuracy of his statements, but the position he took the other day was definitely born of the wrong way of thinking. Basically, he stated that it would be a mistake to consider the Tea Party movement and the 9/12 March on Washington anything other than a “conservative ascendancy”. His reasoning is that if the issue gets classified as anything else, it could spark a third party that would guarantee the re-election of Obama and his administration, and the Democrat congress to go with it. He went it to it a little in this quote from his show with a caller named Dana: Read the rest of this entry »

9/12 Protest March

I met a lady in FedEx-Kinkos the Wednesday before Saturday’s protest march. I wished her luck since I was working on Saturday and would not be able to attend. She said that it seemed for every person going there were another hundred that wished they could. I don’t doubt that statement. She was very kind, and very aware that the problems she was protesting have been going on for a long time. Most of the people I have seen and talked to are the same way. This is not partisan, nor even conservative. This is the American people waking up. Read the rest of this entry »

Good Riddance

So Van Jones resigned with final spew of blame. No surprise there, socialist and communist minded persons are not known for their understanding of personal responsibility. While I appreciate the role Van Jones played in tying the environmental movement to a socialist agenda, I am happy to see him resign. I also am happy that there is starting to be some anger of the whole czar thing in general. Having “special advisers” with “special authority” is out of line. Obama did not invent the whole czar thing, but like many of his horrid policies, he did accelerate it. Read the rest of this entry »

Mexico Takes a Libertarian Stance on Drugs

Those of you who know me know that I am not a fan of drugs. You also know that I am not a fan of restricting drugs. Such things are the right of an individual to decide. Mexico recently made a move I would like to see eventually implemented here. They legalized possession of small amounts of almost every drug. This allows a few things to happen. 1) They can put more resources into other crimes or focus on suppliers of drugs. 2) They can no longer use drug charges to harass individuals, an issue that always comes with too many laws and restrictions. The harder you make it to obey the law fully, the more power the government or those enforcing law to have control and manipulation power of the individuals they choose to. One of the key reasons to reduce restrictions on people is to reduce the temptation of control through favors and threats. Read the rest of this entry »
